Cynthia Cusick
Cynthia Cusick of Tea Horse Studio is a fine artist and potter working in Irvine, Ky., just southeast of Lexington, Ky. and Bluegrass Horse country. Born and raised in the the NYC area with a prior career in graphic design, she moved to her farm in Estill County, KY from the Greenpoint/Williamsburg area of Brooklyn in the late 90's. She received her BFA from Eastern Kentucky University with concentrations in ceramics and metal-smithing. She works in multiple mediums including clay and metals.
Cusick works in white and dark stoneware, primarily mid-range, cone 6 oxidation, in an electric-fired kiln. Occasionally, she high-fires in a wood-fueled soda kiln with Bobtown Arts of Berea, Ky. Her work is often composed of drawings carved into the surface of the pot. Motifs are usually animal-based, primarily horses, and reminiscent of cave-art primitive-style drawings and markings.
Cusick opens her studio one for a studio sale one day a year in late October. She is a member of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen.
